My suggestion is don't buy stihl, all the other makes pretty much fit each other (apart from a Japanese one I can't remember the name of) and get one of those reedcutter attachment things (also a Japanese thing I can't remember the name of)

What type of heads do they have, are the replacements easy to come by.

Pole Saw

Brushcutter

Lawn edger

Tiller

and of course, the Hedgetrimmer. This attachment is a quality bit of kit, its only downside is that it does not fold flat against the shaft, but is lockable anywhere in a 135 degree arc. The blades can be adjusted to keep them tight together.

Sure, they can, and do, go wrong sometimes, just like any other, but the parts are easily obtainable, easy to fit and affordable. A gearbox repair is less likely than on a stihl, but in the event it happens it can usually be repaired for aboout 50% the replacement value, rather than scrapped.

Despite all the hate on 4-mix (deserved hate I might add) this thread seems to have died a death- however it will certainly help you.

Top tip- Stihl kit makes insane money on eBay. Sell the old 4-mix engine mounted on the new shaft from the FS-70 after swapping them over- just tell the punters it's an FS-130 or whatever with a brand new shaft, they'll go nuts for it.
