They leave the stumps high so they are not a trip hazard . Around here they also wrap them in hazard tape until they are removed .

Ha I guess the long grass that now covers the stumps means they havnt got anyone with a grinder that will do it for free.

First I guess you have lost work due to the volunteers?

 

They are annoying, a group had cleared an area near to me only to leave foot high stumps all over the place, not sure what the compensation would be if I was to go playing in the park and trip over one, leaving me with a few months out of work.

but i just dont like the underhanded nature of it all. The councils are obviously trying to make up for budget cuts by using cheap volunteer labor. I would have hoped things were run better than this. You couldn't see any other business trying to survive by employing people for nothing. Crazy!

Generally though, won't the volunteers just be doing menial stuff with limited amount of tools? Can't say it bothers me any.

I've seen them out with strimmers and a few with a saw. It's volunteering so not sure what the h and s rules are.

In my experience, anyone using any powered equipment is usually from whichever organisation is supervising the volunteers and are very strict about it.

What I don't understand is how these council type people can compete against an existing business concern with no overhead, while at the same time be underwritten by the tax payers?. This seems absolutely insane!!!!!!. I hope don't live long enough to see that scheme over on this side of the pond.
