when the large hovercrafts operated from dover i went with a load on her out to the goodwin sands. took little hover in hold. landed on sands had a ride in the little ones. had the sand dance group doing a turn. had a picnic. if you dug a hole in the sand you became a honorary member of the goodwin sands potholing club and was given a certificate also paid for the tie with the goodwin sands lightship on it that was the last time it was done as they retired the hovercrafts. so keep the tie and wear it when i need to go out with a tie gets people asking what its for.

Dover lifeboat tasked by the coastguard after a mayday was received.

No further communication was received from the vessel. So the radio signal was triangulated and a position was given.

Lifeboat on scene 40 minutes after mayday was sent.

A motor vessel was taking on water at a rapid rate and there was a very large hole in the hull. Salvage pump was used and the casualty was towed towards Dover but not allowed into the harbour. So was towed and beached.

3 persons saved.

good work but why would they not let it in the harbour. there it can be fixed a beach if it turns nasty could be wrecked or taken out to sea and could be seen as a vessel in distress and waste your time going out to investigate.

Harbour master didn't want it coming into entrance and sinking, then they have a wreck in the entrance, and with ferries every 15mins they didn't want to risk a closure to the entrance. Would be mayhem.

Had it before. They have to look after there harbour. Plus as soon as it's water tight again they can either sail it in or get it towed from the beach.

There is a place one the beach that has chains and winches to pull it right up the beach.

Ok. It's a border force trial boat. It's on sea trials. The mounted gun is a 40mm grenade mortar.

They have been used in the Somalia pirates battles and is now looking to be had by the border force.

So it's onto the other work by the rnli.

Flood rescue service.

Tonight many stations have been put on flood rescue service rather than sea rescue. This means they will be out with d class lifeboats, helping people who get trapped and also helping with sand bags.

We have been put on a standby for the flood rescue although our only area is Folkestone seafront. Walmer are on sandwich along with rams gate.

With the surge in the tide the levels will be from 0.6-1.2m above normal high spring tides. And although this doesn't sound much, when you have seen the high spring tide and it's only a few feet from the top of a pier it's a lot.

All those in risk areas please use the bags and move anything of any value, both money and sentimental value, up higher and away from any low level where water may get to it.

Stay safe people.
