I brought one last week and tried it a few times this week, but the trouble I'm having is descending. It just feels like I'm jolting down in stages if that makes sense?? It does not feel smooth...

Any advice would be good. Can't seem to find any videos about on have its used around a tree :001_huh:

Thanks....

It takes some practice to get the hang of it. What rope are you using? I used 13mm XTC and thought it was good until I used 11.7mm Poison Hivee.

Just persevere because your bought an excellent piece of kit and it will make climbing less strenuous.

Also, it takes a little while for the surfaces of the rope and the LJ to get used to each other. The jolting will decrease then.

I used to hold the toggle between index and middle finger and have my thumb around the rope. This gave me a bit of 'feel'.

When the rope was wet I'd sometimes put my other hand on the rope below the LJ just to assist and smooth out the jerkyness.

Every hitch and gadget is jerky when wet so don't worry about that.

I tried it on Imori once which was fine when dry and beyond awful when wet.

Don't pull the wooden toggle. Put pressure on the lockjack rope where it's pressed. Sort of like a spider jack descent. Worked for me

Are you using a cambium saver? If not then different bark and friction will react different every time you climb where as if you use a friction saver your friction will stay consistent and you will soon get used to it.

The "jerkiness" of the Lockjack was the reason for Art producing the Spiderjack, IMO.

I just don't understand why they continued to make the LJ after they had produced the SJ??:confused1:
