Shutdown. It's not worth risking your life or someone else's for that matter on a "just in case" or "just to careful" scenario.

 

Plus the bill for repairing the lines if broken will easily outweigh the job.

Great, thanks to everybody for the advice and help, especially the pdf link. Will contact network operation and get a shutdown organised.

Went to do a subbie climbing job for a mate. Got to job and found this. Reducing silver birch. I refused to climb on the ground I thought it was too dangerous.

He pondered a bit but climbed. Job went well, but it could only takes one mistake.

Shut downs are easy to organise and free. They take a while to arrange but it will save you the hassle of worrying about the wires and possibly killing yourself.

The fines are also huge if your short out the wires.

Last fine I heard about was 1200 quid. They took out four un insulated cables. About 200 yards long.

 

Not me someone else. Heard about the fine through the grapevine. The cost of repair and if there are no tickets to cover the job with power lines the fines can get ridiculously high.....

 

Take a step back, look at the job, and think to yourself is it worth all going wrong for a few phone calls to the power network?
