I'm not 100% on this, but surely if any pics are put in the public domain, are they not the able to be used by anyone? Surely the only way to protect them is with a sort of watermark type thing over them? Still, not condoning this persons actions, and it would lead me to doubt the credibility of his business if he is taking pics from elsewhere as his own to promote his business. Of course, he may be buying timber in to meet his orders, and be otherwise quite legitimate.

 

Copyright infringements are common over here and when caught are delt with very quickly.:thumbdown:. Watermarks or the like are helpful for protecting ones pictures. Sometimes as a last resort banning from a site may be the finall course of actIon.

Copyright exists as soon as you take the picture and (unless you sell or transfer the copyright) the image is protected by copyright no matter whether you keep it on your computer or put it all over the internet - it's still your image and people can't use it without asking permission.

Practically however image theft goes on all the time especially on the net. I once found one of my wildlife images on the BBC website, they removed it within 24 hours after I complained but there was no apology.
