Hi all,

Your thoughts please.

I have my Stein arbor trolley but no crane hoist on the truck. What do you think about a portable engine hoist to get the logs onto the truck without having to cut them.

Your thoughts are awaited.

Frighteningly slow!

Quicker to cut and lift than use a manual hoist.

Also depends on how smooth the surface is to slide the hoist - can't see its worth it.

That would be a lot of effin about, they are built for a smooth concrete floor and aren't any use off road.

If you adapted it to drop on a swivel post in the back corner you might have half a chance and you could also take it off when not needed.

Something like this.. it says it is easily de mountable.

Think I will give them a call soon.

I use an engine hoist for loading and unloading saw logs - a ton log is a fair size! They are slow - a lot of handle pumping needed to lift slowly, and they're very difficult to move around other than on smooth tarmac (although I've done it with a ton log on over grass).

Probably no use if you're just loading up firewood/scrap but worth considering if you're moving big stuff around for later milling.

I've got a 500kg penny swing lift mounted on my 8' ifor. It's great for big bits. The lift can be lifted off it's lugs as you would a garden gate. You still have the up right post though.
