I store my firewood in bulk bags and in loose heaped piles and im trying to decide on the best system for loading logs for delivery. The dilemas are 1.how to load bulk bags into a truck for loose delivery and 2. how best to load loose logs. I have a tractor with loader but if thats busy on the processor i would need another tractor.Fine,im happy to do that but are there better options ie mini skid steer loader or something similar or is there a better system all together like constructing some sort of loading bay/dock.Any thoughts or ideas would be most welcome.

Chances are that you wont be looking to load at the same time as processing. If so then yes a new loader but bear in mind that if you load bags from the rear then a teleporter while more expensive would be a better bet.

You will also need a drop down tail ramp and a pump truck, then you arrive on site and roll them off with the pump truck. I have now stopped doing bulk, bags are the way forward but on a Transit or 7.5 tonner where you wont have a ramp then a tail lift or crane would be needed.

Mainly loading bulk then anything with a bucket, I bought a good MF135 with bucket a while ago for 2700 + VAT.

I am going to have a toy cull soon as I have two of everything. I would get a skid steer and mack a bund on concrete base. I am looking for some of those pyramid shaped motorway concrete barriers to make a bund. I store my logs in 1.5 bags and use the tipping loops to spread them in bund then scoop up and load. Many different ways of doing it depends what kit you have and what comes along at the right price.

I thought they were good little machines but we sometimes need to pick up 2.5 tonnes and our 1.5 cu bags weigh a tonne when green. I think the biggest advant lifts 1000kg close in ?

I think it all comes down to cost, I looked at the possibilities of a second tractor, skidsteers, teleporters etc. In the end I bought a second hand Bobcat that could lift a ton on Ebay.

So far it has been invaluable, it can turn on a penny so can stack cubic metre bags in tight spots and it has a quick release mechanism so I can change to bucket in less than 2 mins (and I am slow!). Use it for taking logs from stacks, taking pallets of coal and briquettes, as well as loading up my trailer. Really useful but make sure you get one which can lift a ton and try and find a good second hand one for £6,000 rather than pay £35,000 for a new one!Bobcat%20loading%20small.jpg
