Ideas for uses for chain oil containers 25l.

Im sure like many others, we all accumulate a large number of these containers, but what to do with them all. I'm starting to get a bit of a collection. I use the odd one here and there to drip-water around trees, (having flushed them right out til clean) I have filled them with water as ballast for tarps, but still I get more and more. I hate the idea of sending them to landfill, but what to do?

Cut in half lengthways, they make good oil catch trays for draining sumps. If you make them a bit taller then you can pour the waste oil into a smaller container through the existing pouring hole (rather than just out of the cut corners) so it's less messy.

 

Have used them in the past with each end sawn off to make filling rubble sacks/log nets/charcoal bags easier.

 

The old Oregon ones were quite rigid so with one side cut off don't make bad boxes to slide under the bench and the handles mean you can still slide them out loaded.

 

EDIT: forgot the obvious one of decanting cherry into for refueliing tractor on site

I've done the oils draining tray thingy, forgot that one. I like the idea for holding open rubble sacks

Daft thing is its cheaper (or was last time we priced it up) per litre for us to buy it in the 20L drums.

Holding waste engine oils. Or waste hydraulic oils. Good to keep and use as anti rust protection. Or smother a lockbox in so any thief gets a hand full of oil.

 

Holding red diesel. Using as catch trays, use a couple for early planting, we use one with side just cut off and put under the chipper to catch anything falling through the drain hole in chipper flywheel, makes less mess on a nice driveway.

Tie them together and make a raft. Might need it if we have more rain!

But did you price it up with money back on the drums for scrap.

Doesn't rain here too much, that's why I live here, don't like getting wet!
