We put many closures on including sundays. Please let me know how you put an offfical closure on in acordance with chapter 8 and a RASWA notice with no costs on a sunday?

i drive a jcb 3cx and an permanant hire to norfolk conty council and they have changed every thing now so when you do any works on the highway it have to be what they call t.m.a and you only get a fixed time to do the work ie 3 days then you have to get off even if the job isnt completed and if your not off on the allacated time the council will get fined from the street works inspector

I had a similar problem with a rat run road wide enough for vehicles to pass, I wanted the road completely shut for 4 hours for safety reasons. The council wanted £800, I told them to stick it and worked on a sunday, I put closed signs and cones on the ends of the road but made sure my equipment was to one side so a vehicle could still pass if needed.

 

I then posted a man on the cones to move them in an emergency should the need arise.

 

The extra two men for the ends of the road cost me £120 for both a saving for the customer of £680.

 

Most of the time roads are closed to safe guard the public not because you are going to take all the road up

 

Take off your " I stick to all the silly rules that cost money hat" Badger and think, if the council did these closures for reasonable money instead of silly money then there would be more uptake.

 

On a similar theme, if they charged silly prices for tpo applications what do you think would happen, people would just prune or butcher their trees without applying. By making it free and simple, more people are willing to apply and therefore the council have more control.

I was thinking of doing chapter 8 to make me more employable(currently a student). Is it worth it? Do you really need it ?

For £1600 you could probably get a helicopter (£360 hr,like the video on a thread on here) quicker and more fun.At least you could take the customer for a quick fly around and they would feel they got something for their money

sorry TC but you cant heli-lift over open public roads H&S and all that, although in my experiance the cars normally skid to a halt when the see a heli about 30ft above the road anyway and will park up and watch blocking the traffic anyway, heli work is the only part of my old job i miss

 

although we never had road closures only used stop go boards and that was ok'd by the local rights of way authority
