Ashman-do you know him?

Recommended Posts

This isn't so 'hippy' but like a book club why not take a deposit from everyone= returnable on request and when finished borrowing. Can't think of any other way that would stop you losing out. It's a shame really. I thought this was a good thing.

I guess another way would be to have everyone who passes on a book PM you with the new borrower's name/address. It's all a bit administrative.

By the way, to ease up on resources I found Body language at our library. Do it online

I just wanted it to be easy, and to not put people off, folk are lazy by nature!

Im O.k with it, its going to happen, I just got very upset about it cos its meant to be for you guys and when one goes missing its lost and people miss out.

It wont stop me, my journey through the many books I have read and the woodland walks and hunts I went on to find out for myself inspired by that reading made me the arb I am today.

If I could inspire the drive and passion I have into anyone else in some way I would not hesitate, hence this idea, for now its my way of kicking it off in others.

I think the deposit idea is a good one, given the value of the books generally. If this were my scheme, I'd need a little more of a guarantee with people. Tony, had you lent me a book towards the end of last year, the last thing I or my family would be worrying about is sending it back, not through rudeness or ignorance, but through the reason that there is more important things in life to worry about. FTR I think its a very good idea, if everyone is honest, which they're not, even libraries have amnesties to get books back!! Just needs the teething problems sorted.

A lot of people wont have substantial deposits to put down, some of these books are into the hundreds, average is 50 quid, theres a lot of thinking to do, I would like to rely on good will, even allowing for the odd misshap.

I agree Tony....the good thing about this club is that it is done on trust. In todays society with all its problems trusting in somebody (especially strangers) can be hard thing to do. On the whole this club has worked a treat....until now. But we dont know what the reason is for Ashmans disappearance....Andy is right....it could be anything......

If somebody has stolen it or any other book then the karmic wheel will turn their way......and if they want it that much....let them have it........perhaps all people involved in the club can volunteer a small amount of money each to cover any losses......im happy to contribute.:001_smile:

I think even so a deposit is in order, and not unreasonable in the scheme of things. A non return deposit would help "manage" your books, invest in new ones towards the collection, and replace damaged and lost books, everyone's a winner :thumbup1: I would also have a book club membership, so you have on file each club members details, and restrict lending to those members, it wouldn't be that hard or time consuming once you've put the system in place. You could then email out a reminder on say the fifth week that the loan period is about to expire, and re-loaning will require further booking in the event they haven't finished with it. It is a fantastic idea, and very generous, but fraught with risk of book loss.

Sean, I really appreciate that, the big brother instinct and stubborn as a mule attitude means I dont accet help from anyone! lol, letting others help me is like my krptonite! lmao.

I will find another copy, and like you I also believe that good spirit, and intentions and definitely Karma are the rules by which I play.

maybe Im being overly harsh on Ash, lets hope it turns up some day.:thumbup1:

everything we do requires taking a risk, you have to understand that trust is something that is needed in this world, trust, and faith, without those things we have only distrust and negativity. I cannot change the very principles I set out on, that is a risk I am willing to take, this is a free resource, will always be free and a few losses will have to be taken into account.

though you raise some good ideas there for the admin side of things:thumbup1:
