My mate came down with his industrial fuel cleaning gizmos, and sucked it out best he could,mthe tank is in 2 halfs due to the drive shaft running through the centre. The inspection hatch bolts are solid so will see if that's done the trick, if not he will cut a hole in the side of the chassis and then patch it.

my Valtra is taking up a fair bit of crud from the fuel tank lately.

I hadn’t heard of the fuel cleaning machines .

Best way I've always found on anything is to fully remove. Decant through a funnel into drums and hot power wash the tank out. Dry out and swill out with some clean diesel then re fit. New fuel lines if you can be bothered too.

Is it sludge from diesel bug or just an old steel tank corroding?.

 

Had the corrosion on an old Leyland that ended up messing up and needing the injection pump rebuild, lift pump replacing and a newer tank. Yey to bio fuel attracting water.

Steel tank built into chassis with no drain bung.

brown goo ,probably some rust from tank and years of various dirt.

Yeah, definitely don't envy you doing it in situ. Was bad enough doing it on an old MF590, but atleast the tank came off and I could steam the tank and leave it to air dry.

 

If it was me, I would flush through the tank as much as possible with clean diesel and then just keep changing filters until the weather warms up and do it in summer.

 

As you'll need to blast it on scalding hot and probably leave it to dry for a week even in summer.

Drill the bugger and tap it out and fit a bung..... 

 

Maybe even see if feasible and not compromise strength. Have a hole made in side of chassis as access. Then have a plate made up with a seal and ring of bolts round it. Bit ott  I know

Best thing for sucking out crap or cleaning the bottom of a fuel tank is a cheap wetndry vac, strain the fuel and chuck it back in and suck it out again, rinse and repeat as necessary. Launch it in the bin when it blows up.

Take a long time to get quarter / half inch layer of shit out the bottom though but see where your coming from
