Where does the money go?

but they can't handle the responsibility of being awesome.

The points regarding danger and cost may in some cases be related - pushing on to finish, doing long days, waiting to repair/replace kit, taking bigger risks and so on. Constantly chasing to catch up also adds stress and can cloud judgement and increase risk taking, so there is a balance between silly money and silly risks.

As for Dave 123's original post i would say that the prices are in the right area. As for the difference on the prices, one explanation may be that there are some jobs that can be taken on with less kit and some that need more kit, some boys have lots of toys some have fewer. Your job sounds small enough to be done by those with just a few toys, other jobs are impossible without, or become increasingly cost effective through, the use of big toys.

There'll be loads of brash (i.e. branch material and foliage) from your job - meaning lots of handling and possibly multiple trips to tip site.

Plus the resin just gets everywhere and blackens everything!

I have only been doing this job for 17 years, not a long time considering some other forum members.I have only had the misfortune of losing one workmate onsite in that time.I have seen some horrible and many small injuries.

Pretty much any manual worker would have witnessed much the same.

Plus this ain't for queen and country lol... We ain't heroes but we are worth more than bob the plumber taking his risk with a wrench for sure.

Mike is making a point which I might have made somewhere else if he hadn’t made it here.

My understanding is that he is trying to introduce some perspective.

There has always been people that say I’ve been doing this 20 years and I don’t know nothing. It’s has the effect of making beginners believe that they could never reach a standard of worthiness till they did it for 20 years.

I’ve done my 20 years and I say its not easy but as Andy C says it aint rocket science.

If it was that easy no disrespect to Andy he would do the climbing himself.. But he uses some of the top climbers I know of... His team works and it comes at a price... So there you go!

OK mate.
