i was cutting a hollow tree down a few years ago and someone had filled the cavity with concrete!!!!!

Yep out TO told me to do the very same thing about 10 years back, a couple of years after that I was told to bore cut the pocket to drain the cavity live and learn

I found this in a Hazel coppice stump late in the afternoon as going dark and hate to think had the bar gone in the chain slide. Teeth on cutters needed a light sharpen.

I hit an iron gutter bracket with my 36" bar last year. Took a while to get that sharpened again. Still got all the bits from it too

8ft is well below ladder reach, so it wouldn't have bothered me....

 

Seriously, good heads up. That kind of thing is potentially life-threatening, never mind chain-destroying.

It's a choker slider from a winch. You have 4 or 5 of these on your winch cable and you set the choker chains on the sliders. Guess someone broke a winch cable in the past.
