Flip line prep

Anyone prep there flip lines?

Reason I ask if I've got a nice new shiny one, problem I'm having is my Pruss loop knot is slipping one the new line?

Is there anything I need to do to sort of rough it up a bit to stop it happening? It's a bit unsafe and it makes me nervous to use it, I'm only rec climbing with my gear so I use the flip line to have a rest in the tree or when changing my lines as a bit of extra security.

Or am I using it wrong?

Yeah it's gotta be a one handed affair by just pulling the tail. I use a vt n hc on mine, works a treat and not expensive.

Hey Rich, if you're only using it for rec climbing and dosh is an issue atm then just take your time, use it and the prussic will soon dig in and grip.

Sounds like you just need to bed the two together to me.

I use a distel on my rope strop and have a mini rope grab on my steel line. I actually profer the distel as it is easier to slacken off, rope grab I find you have to take a bit of weight off it first. But I still use the rope grab for chogging down because I find the distel can get jammed up with water/chip/sap.

You could try soaking it in warm water, that will perhaps take the surface residue off. I put my ropes in the washing machine when new but not sure if you could do that with a steel line ... don't want to be responsible for destroying your washing machine :001_tt2:

rec climbing does not require the same speed functionality of kit used commercially

I have to agree, but.. i think its a method he should get out of. i have a new climber in work with me, (just passed he's tickets) he uses this method on his flip line/side strop and finds it a pain in the butt, he had a go of my rope grab and loved it.
