Last week got a call to say a neighbour had the council round to tell them to remove part of a lime tree about 8ft high that was leaning across the footpath (had complaints) and refused to leave till job done. When i arrived it turned out that the day befor the bin lorry had caught the tree and caused it to lean over the path. The council man also to the owner that if she couldnt find anyone within half an hour he would get the council to do it and charge her. The job took about 15 min to do

Question is how much would you charge and how much do you thing the council were going to charge even when they did the damage

Standard LA call out is probably £450ish plus vat.

Depending on the neighbour I would have done it for between £20-£100.

On the question of liability, the LA has an obligation to keep the highway clear up to a height of 4.8 metres (i think). If they had previously asked the neighbour to clear the highway then she doesnt have any comeback on the bin lorry issue.

Of course if the lorry was off the road at the time then that is a different matter.

:confused1:

If i was the home owner I would of asked the council guy how much they would charge if \i found no one to do the job.

I would then of asked you and simply gone with the cheapest so not sure why this hasnt happend...

I guess £100 mark though if i was invoicing it but it largely depends what else i got done in that day as a result of this job.

Mr Blair i guess u dont get many job off your neighbours or they a bit richer than mine. The council stated £450, but the council caused the damage. It was witnessed by a neighbour. The thing that gets me is how the heck could they charge that price.

I did charge a cheap price got a bottle of good whisky and 2 more jobs out of it. It sometimes pays to be nice :001 :thumbup1:
