Getting out there is the easy bit its getting back in that can be a bit dodgy :001_smile:

Keep your rope tight, hang on to anything you can no matter how small (epicormic can be stronger than you think) and if you have a saw with you use it to your advantage as a counter balance weight.

It takes practice and practice and practice. Even after many years some peeps still have a prob with branch walking, so dont give in.:thumbup1:

I'm still pretty new to climbing. I'm fine doing it but a bit slow. I reduced a limb on an Oak not so long ago, as it was to low over the drive. I branch walked out without to many problems, then at the end where I needed to cut, I sort of sat down on the branch, put my strop round it and hand held cut as far back as was required. Now I'm sure there would have been a better approach, although this one worked it seemed to lack that fluidity. Ideas?

Thanks in advance

Rob

if you manage to get out to the end but can't maintain balance, theres nothing wrong with setting up a second rope, on a shortener or hitch, anchored from a different angle so you can stand easily and shift your weight to reach the cuts.

You could use a sling...girth hitched and use it as a foot hold while cutting
