Do you put your wood in bags or in a pile?

Gensetsteve.. in my very humble opinion those bags of yours are to sheltered being so close to the hedge and therefore not getting proper airflow.

 

The hedge is knacked on the bottom so they prevailing wind whips through still dont want more than 3 deep though. The bags are from LC packaging and are about £5 I get about 3 seasons out of them. The have 2 tipping loops on the bottom. They weigh about 1000 kg when full and green. they die due to my forklift skills not uv damage. I like lc packaging because they dont sell kindling

Yea also had problems when putting them straight into the polytunnel, i now leave them outside uncovered in m3 vented bags then when the moisture is getting into the low 20s put them in the polytunnel for a month.

I find that if they are left outside in a heap un covered they will dry down to 20% quite well. My yard is on the top of a hill though, its always windy up there...

My bobcat lifts 750kg but wont lift them when green but no probs when dry. You could leave the top 2 ft then top by hand when placed. Try lifting a bulk bag of sand they are normally 850kg

Yeah I'm sure there is a way round it. The weight should come down enough when seasoned for the tractor to be able to lift them. Thanks for your help.

I'm billeting all my wood now and leaving uncovered outdoors until the weather turns at the end of summer then logging into the shed. Last year I had piles of logs under tarps and the driest wood was the 3-4ft lengths I was using to weigh the tarp down!

 

It's a bit unnerving when you get weeks of rain like now but a few weeks of late sun will dry them perfectly.

As my missus would tell me to say "WE" put our logs straight from processor into vented bag's, works a treat, split some Birch in April at 40% moisture and it is now at 15-20% and it is stored in an open fronted shed.
