Beginner's slr camera

i just bought a sony for £300. i went in jessops with the intention of buying the nikon d60 but they recommended the sony.....something to do with the motors, anti shock etc being housed in the camera body unlike the nikon which is housed in the lens....this makes buying extra lenses much cheaper. the camera itself also had good reviews. my first slr so cant really compare it to anything else personally.

The Ricoh GX200, Canon G10 or the Panasonic lumix Lx3 are

all good spec'd cameras. The Canon has suffered with internal dust problems in earlier models. I havn't checked the user forums lately to see if this has been rectified. I have a G7 which is great apart from the dust thing. Bridge camera? I'm not familiar with the term.

Can't fault it so far but then I am not really a pro at these things but the camera had good reviews and a mate had a similar model. I picked one up from pixmania through the amazon website... got a deal for the cam, 4gb card and a carry case + delivery for 330 ish knicker.

As far as i know ( not a great deal admittedly ) a Bridge camera is a halfway between a compact camera and a dslr. You cannot change the len's but they have a fairly high spec zoom len's. I think i'm gonna have to take atrip up to Jessop's and have a play with some of the suggestion's on here.

Somewhere, (gathering dust in my brothers attic as far as I can recollect) I have a Nikon FM2 with a bunch of PK fitting lenses. Now I know it’s a big ask but any chance of these lenses working with a digital SLR body?

Cordwood - how into photography are you and what is your intended use for the slr ? (I don't mean taking pictures !!)

 

The reason being an SLR is a beast and can be fairly fragile, I am a fairly reasnoble amatuar yet i often leave the SLR at home in favour of a happy snap didital cam.

 

Lugging an SLR and associated equipment up a mountain for example can be a right swine.

Good point. I have a camera for every occasion, from compact to medium format. For our industry out in all weathers, there are a few small waterproof compacts about. I have still to get one, and fit it to my harness.

Do you mean Pentax PK fitting. Yes there is a pentax digital that takes this fitting, but be aware the small chip will increase the focal length of the lenses. I'd do aweb search to find out more if I were you. FM2? classic.

Thanks for that good news.I had a lot of fun with the FM. Time for a rummage in the attic.
