Just random question.

Does anyone use one instead of just a normal lanyard. And if so how do you get on with it. Or the reasons why you dont use it

Thanks

Arran

Why would you? lol

I have used one and it was an aimless waste of time. The slight memory in it made it impossible as a lanyard, and even a brand new one they're obviously more rigid than rope so get caught on everything, you cant put it into a harness mounted lanyard bag, the eyes wear your krabs quicker and the eyes also twist and wind you up, you cant throw it as well as a rope lanyard and its alot harder to use with a pulley / distel system as theres no flexibility to pull it through.

The only reason i can think to use one is if someone really hasnt got the cash for a lanyard and flipline. But a 4/5 meter bit of rope is like less than a tenner!

Hope this answers your question in no uncertain terms and be interested to see if anyone else agrees!

Ditto Will!

Never used one in my life and don't see the point of them.

On a 'pole' its normal strop and main line choked below it. You stand a bit high of your cut to keep the sawdust out of your face and strop is well below that so don't see how you can cut it by accident without a very serious lapse of concentration.

Going to add an edit here: I don't "get" them but if others do, then I will respect their decision,.... has to be safer doesn't it.:001_smile:

I agree with you that it is unlikely you'll ever cut one on a pole unless your head is in the clouds, plus it is still possible to cut through a wirecore flipline so its a false security to have the mentality that its cut proof.

If I'm clearing a stem as I ascend I always use a wire strop because I find the ridgidity makes it easier to flick up. But when I'm moving past branches I alternate between wirecore and normal strop.

This makes sense to me but if you saw my other post about hessian three strand you'll realise what a dinosaur I am. If I meet someone in my travels that has a wire one to lend me I might try this.

But I don't fancy having it hanging off my harness instead of my beautifully streamlined strop the rest of the time:001_smile:

One good thing about them is you can use a micro grab and tighten and release with one hand, and you get to spend loads more money at jonsies

Moosie

On my Samsung Note - It's big, but it's good

Without wishing to "diss" your point old bean, I think that even I as a dinosaur use a 'micro grab' on my normal strop, although I wouldn't have called it that... simply because I don't know what its called. I can adjust with one hand.

I understand your second point re buying shinies though:001_smile: even though its not my style

I have tried to upload a pic of the micrograb, but things have changed since I got the macbook and I can't do it anymore. Will keep trying:001_smile:
