poor pay

Should the assembly worker at Speke putting wheel nuts on Freelanders be paid more because he is 40+ with kids? Or should he be paid the going rate for the job?

Your logic is lost on me. If you pick a random ASDA or B&Q store you will find a right mix of various skills and life/work experience all working for the minimum wage. If something more suitable or better paid comes along then they have a choice.

Attacking employers for offering employment in this climate seems barking so I suspect I have not understood your point properly.

I'm not having a moan about my pay getting from tree work, I'm not employed and not looking to be, I do ok from it. Yep, got freedom of choice, and freedom of speech too.? If you want to put up and shut up that's up to you.

The reason your post was removed in the employment thread is because its a job posting, not a discussion. Just because you dont want to work for that money it doesnt mean someone else wont jump at the chance of getting their foot in the door. And more importantly, what do you think the perception is of the forum if someone cant even put up a job posting without everyone jumping on them? Hardly an incentive for ANYONE to post an available job....and that certainly isnt in the interest of the forum or its members, dont you agree?

People need to look beyond their own ideals sometimes and look at the bigger picture....I get quite tired of people throwing up the 'freedom of speech' card just because sometime gets deleted....its incredibly short sighted.

You haven't, I'm not looking for a job.

I maybe think companies should be doing more , like better pay for employees, to benefit probably the industry as a whole in the long term. Yes supply and demand I know and the arguments a bit of a plate of spaghetti. And I don't like getting posts wiped

No fair mine also got wiped about posting swear words? May I politely ask why? Or did I give away how to post them? Just asking is all.

If you are not looking for a job why post in the employment section??????!..

There are people looking for jobs who have bills to pay and are finding life very hard ATM. By posting about pay being stupid IYO it wil put off people that would want a job just so there house doesn't get repossed, or there water shut off.........

IMO your actions were out of line and you should have reserved the right to remain silent over it.....

Employers that pay more than the job is worth these days tend to be restricted to the higher management roles in Banking and Local Government.

No matter how benevolent, the rest have to recognise market forces.

Like everything tree services are only worth what someone is willing to pay (and a lot of people are willing to pay as little as possible) so saying we are worth double isn't right. I understand that we do a more physical job that say a sparky or plumber who are possibly on a higher hourly rate but with significantly less overheads than us but because we do a more physical job does it mean we are worth more?

Something someone once said to me is a plumber/sparky will fit something that will improve the customers life day in day out, we generally remove something that is a problem/inconvenience and in a months time they have forgotten what was there.

If EVERYONE (including the nomadic loppers/out of work builders/gardeners/etc) refused to work as a team of 3 for less than £1000 a day then at some point the new rate would be accepted as tree work is necessary. However there will always be someone who would be willing to do it for £500 (for example) so that is the going rate.
