I do a bit of climbing/putting winch lines up for an old boy ,he has 3 Militants ,1 is a 6x6 recker ,1 has had an axel cut off to get in to tighter spots and a crane put on. And the 3rd and the oldest 6x6 has an old HAP crane put on ,the winch is multi speed from the gearbox . Starts first time on a frosty morning .

worked with an AEC matador a few times and they are superb, the pulling power is awesome. it's a great sight when you crank up the winch and watch the front wheels come up then the anchors bite and down she comes ripping the tree with it. A shame you don't see many still working on a daily basis instead of just in sawmills etc.

would you drive a motor with a blown head gasket ?

It's irrelevant mate i would have the good grace not to keep going on about it at every opportunity :)

It depends on the motor but yes, I would, I have done it and got away with it several times.

As Huck said it’s a calculated risk.

The AEC and Matador are excellent but for absolute pulling power may I recommend the Diamond T with Garwood winch. We had to stop winching an Oak stump out once because it was making the world slow down!.... Honest......
