No HNC in the North East???

Recommended Posts

I studied at Northumberland College and left in 2002, since then i've been busy building the business to what it is today, I now feel that my knowledge is becoming limited in what we are doing so I am looking into getting my sorry ass back to school.

I was in touch with east Durham Arb college to enquire about the HNC as I thought this would be more a suitable work load for me whilst running my business and family life, only to be told that they wont be running the HNC this year! Nor will they be running the HND! :sneaky2:

So...... I rang Northumberland College to be told they have not ran and will not in the for seeable future be running a HNC or the HND! :sneaky2:

They are however running the Foundation Degree. :001_huh:

Has anyone done the Foundation Degree whilst running a business? And how did you find it? :confused1:

Or has any of you started the Foundation Degree and quitted because it was too much to do alongside either work or running a business? :confused1:

It,s a shame about East Durham Arb College...i went there in 1995 to do my National certificate in Arboriculture and Blue Book. it was a hive of activity...it was mainly young Farmers Girls on Horses and Trainee Arborists.it was a Different world then...there were people climbing the large trees in the Beech woodland or on the Spiking Pole. Groups of people mingling about the Arboretum studying for the weekly Tree idents..Tractor assault courses...Tirfor and Rigging displays...it was a hive of Arboricultural activity. Now i am sorry to say,it is a shadow of it,s former self...i visited it 2 years ago to find my old Mentor Dave Bently. he was in the Arb department(a single broom cupboard type room) and that was it....What a shame.

I remember Dave Bentley (top bloke) I was there 93-95. Did HND. A good course, but even then the college was dated.

Houghall (east Durham college) ARE running a higher level course from September, cos I'm on it!

I spoke to them on Friday gone and was told they are not running new HNC's or HND's starting in September, they are being replaced with NVQ's.

Are you starting your second year in September?
