Chickens?

Hello,

 

Does anyone keep chickens? I realise its well off topic, we seem to have a fair success so far, on a good week we get about 6 eggs from each of our two plus a cockerel who maintains order & sorts out the cats if they go in the run.

 

Along with the regular food they seem to eat most greens particularly spinach, prawn heads/shells & melon seeds as well.

 

They do a fine job of scratching up moss & fertilizing in return!

 

Im in the process of making a new hen house & will post photos when done, we dont have many foxes - La Chasse keeps them well under control thankfully.

i have a few hens,and have for many years:thumbup:

just feed them twice aday,make sure they have water and pick up the eggs,simple as that...

Wife's got about 20 of them, all shapes and sizes. Not sure how many eggs she gets, and there's usually a 'discussion' of how many eggs i eat meaning theres less for her to 'sell'. I maintain they eat my grain and I put the fencing up with my chaps so that entitles me to eat as many eggs as I wish in my eyes!

 

We have real problem with fox, even electric wire at the top of a 8ft fence struggles to keep them out in cub season......

 

Funny things chickens, shame they can't roam the yard to have a good scratch about!

We keep chickens in the fridge or freezer. 3 chickens do us half a dozen eggs every time we buy them from the butchers (3 chickens + 6 eggs for £12 is a good deal)

I have a few, a pair of Lincolnshire Buffs, a crested legbar and a black orpington at the mo. I also have 7 eggs away being incubated, and it looks like 5 are viable, (no doubt all male). I keep getting tempted by O Shamos, an asian breed which can reach 3 ft tall.

yep I have had chickens for years I breed them they are great fun and a good distraction from work breeds include dutch,rosecombe orpington etc:thumbup:
