No disrespect to any of our colonial cousins, but with the levels of training and safety equipment in place both personal and machinery wise i would think strongly that we have a far lower accident rate. And i will take into account the temp ranges they have to deal with over there which makes wearing ppe sometimes a hazard in itself.

Ppe aint even good here we use saws that all run over 20ms but our trousers only stop a saw at 20ms. For example 200t runs between 24-28 ms.

A half tonne log hitting your head with or without skid lid is certain death.

Common sense is our biggest protecter dont leave home without it.:scared1:

As far as i have always understood it, the theory was that in the event you made a mistake and were about to let a saw hit you, just taking your finger off the throttle would slow the chain down enough to yourself a good chance of coming away intact. I agree that on full revs any saw is likely to go through your trousers. BUT, i'd much rather my chances wearing my stretch air than a pair of levi's.

If a half tonne log hits you on the head then some serious questions need to be asked about what the hell was going on!! But, yes, youre screwed.

Common sense is aquired through training, learning and experience yes? Only through working in the US have i been given an insight as to what goes on on both sides of the pond and we both have our pro's and con's as to the prevention of accidents.

I often thought that on hot summer days over here. The simple answer is knock off at two, get stuck in, eat and drink on the hoof. Then plenty of time for hobbies and a beer or six...............Like most days I suppose....Ah! lifes a breeze:001_smile:
