If the bearings won't take the speed, use the 540 and rev higher, that way you'll have more torque.

 

I agree that more torque would be better but the Mog would just guzzle fuel.

 

The speed has been checked and with 1400rpm on the Mog engine the chipper disc is spinning 1000rpm.

that is a very low rpm to be running the engine at, it make me think you using the 1000 pto geart but only for 540 rpm at the shaft, i would try 540 pto grear and you engine well need to be at far higher rpm though

 

 

ps i dont use a mog but this is my exprance with tractors

Really, is it geared up ??

 

I thought to get 1000 RPM at the PTO the mog had to be revving much higher than that, but I could be wrong.
