I've obviously touched a nerve. So it's safe to say there are split opinions on this subject of which we are all entitled to.

I just don't get why people feel the need to scare munger about so called "cowboys".

It becomes like the boy who cried wolf.

Lets just stick to facts.

Surely an opinion should be based on facts.

Looks chaps. All I'm saying is that IN MY OPINION I write quotes out for my customers because it protects me and the customer. It's a fixed price and I believe the majority of my domestic customers like to have something on paper to guarantee that price. Again. I don't know what it's like where you are but around me there are cowboys who will give a verbal price do a shoddy job, intimidate them and in circumstances demand extra. Ie. the price was only for the felling not the waste away. THAT IS FACT. If your way works for you then that's fine. But for me a written quote is my preferred method. :001_smile:

Conservatory was an extreme example. But it just be down to cutting a stump To 1" above ground level.

You do it.

Finish the job

PAck your kit up

Ready to go

Customer comes out and say I thought you were gonna cut that down to ground level !!

You say no we said 1" above ground level.

They don't agree

Unhappy customer

You have no back up

Get all your kit off and cut and clear up.

This did happen to me when I first started out and no written quote. You want the customer to be happy

So you get repeat work.

As I said before, each to their own, but don't take the other example too seriously, as it was probably a fictitious example
