Wood for turning???

whats everyone doing when they get wood thats good for turning/carving??

 

told a customer who used to turn that i had a got a few lovely seasoned lengths of laburnum and yew and he almost wet him-self!

he told me i should be selling it to merchants (?)

 

normally just give it away, but the prices he was quoting me got me thinking £££!

well what prices//sizes ??? must be a lot of telepaths on site,no one seems to mention £ or their locations in their avitars or posts.. something to hide. ????

diddnt think it was relevant as was wanting to know of outlets for such wood!

 

customer told me of a 50x50cm cube of burr elm for £70 from some place that specalises in wood for turning-its that that got me thinking!

 

and i think my avaitar says 'Cambridge. . . unfortunatly!'

As a beginer at woodturning i think some people charge to much for blanks, especially at shows it's quite off putting when your starting off. Sometimes if its good people will pay anything more money than sense IMO. The better deal that i get the cheaper the customer can get the finished product for, the prices of wooden bowls in some shops is unbelievable. Any way moan over.

 

If you have time save them up and take them to shows eg. festival of the tree at westonbirt.
