Had a bit of a scare today! Saw a huge plume of smoke coming from where I store my logs. Turn up to see That there's been a common fire and that it missed my log pile by a few metres. Worst thing is the fire ripped through most of the surrounding area. Fire brigade have put fire out but I'm not allowed to check out the rest of the damage today. I'll post pics later this week. Very cool mog the brigade have though!!

Same problem here this was not too far from our house, a clip from the local paper.AN INVESTIGATION was under way yesterday into the cause of a huge grass fire in Risca.

 

The Argus reported yesterday how firefighters tackled the blaze near Eppynt Close in Ty Sign on Monday.

 

The 20 firefighters were called to the scene just before 2.30pm to put out the flames which had destroyed grassland in a 500 metres square area.

 

South Wales Fire and Rescue Service said officers returned to the scene yesterday afternoon to start investigations into the cause of the fire. We had the same problem last year in the same area.

We had a local bird reserve torched in the early hours. It isnt one of our sites but we help the RSPB with rush cutting and controlled burning. It is suspected to be arson. Not surprising as it was on fire in the early hours.

just heard that Brookwood Cemetery in Surrey has a wildfire ongoing - big place (500acres) so I hope they get it under control pronto. There are some superb conifer specimens in there - would be a great shame if any are lost.

Brookwood is also a major military cemetry.

The military side off it is over the other side of the road so thankfully all safe there. Left site at about 4ish and the brigade said the fire was more or less out. But reading the link just posted it looks like it might have started up again?

There's 20 bags in the back left of pic, the fire was put out about a metre away from them catching! Phew!

 

The fire started again on weds and thurs too. All out yesterday.

That was too close for comfort!

 

There have been some big fires this way in Ashdown Forest last weekend as well.
