Forwarder trailer and crane

Could anybody with a forwarder trailer and crane, ie something like a ten ton Botex or Kesla outfit, tell me how fast they are to load / unload? Are we talking ten minutes, twenty minutes, longer? Would be really useful if you could be as accurate as possible.

What size bits?

 

2 bays of 2.5m?

3m firewood?

4.2m saw logs?

 

Doing it in thinnings or clearfell? What sort of diameters?

 

I'd say doing 4m saw logs on big selcetive thinning racks i'd put a load on in about 20mins using an old 8 leaver crane, be quicker on joysticks. Have it off in less than half that.

Hi Brushcutter, thanks for the info. Main task where speed would be important is in moving timber in the yard when chipping day arrives so it would be loading/unloading 3m lengths of softwood, anything from 6 inch to 28 inch diameter. Had a Brunnet forwarder which took a good operator 45 minutes to load and less to unload.

I have an 8 tonne botex with a slightly tired hydraulic pump and an 8 lever valve block - it will take 45 minutes to load with 2 x bunks of 2.4 hardwood cord, a little quicker to unload.

Thats some nifty speed you got going on there. About half an hour to unload i've of thought.

you need 2 men 2 tractors and forwarding trailers on that job, or a big loading shovel with a massive timber grab.

I used to use a Mowi Skog 8 and 2453 crane for woodfuel chipping but did whole tree lengths as this made the work much more effective. Crane is smooth compared to most brands and with a two levers control. (Remote available)

 

Chipping unit was a Laimet HP21 and produced 40 cubic metres an hour on the small blade.

if your after a trailer and crane outfit, have a look at farma. trailers from 6 - 14 tonne drive trailer and cranes from 3.5m to 8.5m if you have a look at the homeforestry page on youtube, you can see me unloading 2.5m pine logs in about 6 minutes.
