It does not say gross train weight it says gross weight of trailer. You are getting confused with tacho law.

It also says

If you already have a licence to drive cars or small vehicles (category B and BE), you'll keep your entitlement to tow trailers. Your entitlement to tow trailers will stay as it was when you passed your driving test.

Or to put it another way if you are old like me nothing changes and our insurance is much cheaper as well but look on the bright side you have youth on your side. :thumbup1: lasses may have to take the test because they passed after 1997

Sounds good:001_tt2:

... her indoors will have to get one for the trailer tent though !

Why?

If she has a B licence she can tow with it under certain rules

I'll make up an example with figures not far from what can be found in reality for towing with a B licence

CAR

Unladen/kerb = 1500

GVW = 2000

Towing capacity = 1800

GTW = 3800

TRAILER

Unladen = 500

MAM = 1500

Load = 1000

Reasons it is legal on a B licence -

Trailer MAM is not more than car unladen weight

Trailer MAM plus car GVW is not more than 3500

Perhaps after driving over a milion miles in 20 years alot of that towing 3500kg I should give up the logs and teach people to reverse a trailer. But then I would be a sad old git towing a halfords trailer with a corsa round an industrial estate. But then I suppose it creates employment for driving instructors put out to grass and DVLA call centre bunnies that retired early with a good pension but still greedy enough to leech off working people :sneaky2: Rant over.

£400-£500 QUID FOR A CAR TRAILER TEST? MAY AS WELL PUT THAT TOWARDS A HGV LICENCE! SAME TEST, JUST IN A BIGGER VEHICLE, THEN YOU GET TO DRIVE ANYTHING ON THE ROAD! (after you passed the rigid obviously!)

The driving rules and categories really do take the piss! At 16 you can drive a tractor and pull artic trailers around full of fertilizer or hay bales doing 50mph in some of these modern tracters and yet you cannot tow more then 750kg behind your car. Its a joke! TOTAL MONEY-MAKING RACKET! Americans don't have all these stupid rules!

I'm going through mine ATM. £35/hr for training and £115 for the test. I've done 2 hours and got another two hours booked then the test the week after.

Although you are right, it's costing me less than £300 in all, but I've had plenty practice!

I only did 4 hours training that was minimum the company did. I also had to hire a vehicle and trailer as my car isn't capable of towing. That put the price up. Because of this also on the test I had to pay for the teacher to sit there and drink tea mAybe thats what put the price up. I don't really remebrt the price I think it was 400. It's monney well spent you're going to have to do it eventually stop moaning about it an do it ( not directed at you rob).

I did mine mostly for my cv if there's 2 people with same skills tickets exp but ones got a trailer ticket one hasn't who do you think will get the work.

Why will you have to do it eventually. Nothing says or even hints at that. The more we accept with out argument money making legislation the more they will put on us. I would think dvla would be better off targeting all the illegal immigrants driving about with no licence or insurance.

If thats directed at me, then i was not moaning, just expressing my opinions. Isn't that what this site is for?

And i will not have to do it ever, because i have got a HGV licence!
