Am i being unresnable by wanting to get some sort of set allowance rarther than just here is x£ for that trip you did to y as its not just the fuel it's all the costs that go with running such a truck.....

Not at all. I would look at an additional quarter or third on top of your day/hour rate

Insurance is not a problem as am also self employed so landy has full business cover and towing cover incase i have someone elses trailer on. Just was wondering if anyone elss has a set deal with employers. HMRC say 45p a mile now but not sure wot this is all about.

At the start you said "employed forestry worker" and then you say self employed. later on you say your "employer"? You cant be employed by A company but be self employed!

But if you are doing it that way then charge them whatever you like for your vehicle, add £50 to £100 a day to your invoices depending on what actual work the vehicle is doing, if its a landy then its likely to be doing work and not just miles so its part of your equipment, same as saws and any other kit, and its all part of the job being done.

Sorry rupe will try and make my state clear. I am a arborist who did forestry before seeing the light but am now doing 40hrs a week paye on the books for a mostly forestry based company, this is the work that is coursing the prob.

I am also registered as part time self a employed as I have my own stump grinder log splitter etc do quite a lot of hedge cutting, chainsaw milling carving and timber craft to reinvest in my business with the view of going full time on my own when my wife starts working again after having our 2nd child. Following so far, there will be a test later...

Oh, ok, I get it! So you still have insurance as if your self employed, that's good.

Not really sure what to advise then, but if your vehicle is doing work as well as miles then you need to get good rates based on hours not necessarily miles.
