One thing I have never done it to get climbing kit for chrsitmas/birthday. That is crossing a line IMO, the work HAS to pay for everything, if not then go without.

I know you would get "hobby" stuff for chrimbo but climbing gear is pushing to far towards hobby, and whilst I said above I treat it "like" a hobby it still has to pay for itself "like" a job.

Anyone can sit behind a desk and push buttons, bark orders and have them barked back, photocopy pieces of paper all day and think there the best admin assistant in the world but the fact is there too much of a pansy to get up and get out there and do a real persons job. there just to comfy sitting around on there backside on nice comfy chairs sippin tea or coffee all day probably low fat ones to reduce putting the pounds on in work then have a salad for there dinner which then they run off after work in there local gym and pay a membership for. We get a workout for free, enjoy doing our job except when its dancing down, Sometimes pay is good other times not so good but above all we have got satisfaction in are job and dont wake up each morning going i need a new job this ones crap.

People can push buttons, same as anyone can kick a ball, any one can read numbers the fact is there just money grabbers who havent got a inch of life in them who are sitting on there backside getting fat and lumpy and a hefty bankaccount whilst us old guard provide services to them. Personally if you earn more 100,000 a year you should have to pay 1/3 in tax and national insurance. Am starting to get angry because the fat cats in suits are pooing on the little guy whose just out to earn a good living for himself and his family.

Rant over enjoyy!!!!!

i would be careful about all you said there, as 99% of the big cats pay our wages, its hard out there, they do there bit we do ours, were all part of the system, with out it, it would all collapse,

Yeh they do and yeh they provide us with careers, but most of the tree felas i know are 100% platinum compared to the mosst jumped up, egotistical, self absorbed people who are only out for looking after them selves, they lead there little lives in a bubble they go to work have a sing and dance at work answering phone calls looking happy and smiling as the stock markets doing okay, but then they pay 1200 a night escort instead of a 50 a night from there local red light moment, they buy top of the range of drugs because there high class friends have.

Am gunna get into trouble one of these days, as you can tell i despise all this people who think there better than the little guy who works as a joiner, plasterer, gardener and tree surgeon.

I think thats harsh, I dont despise them, I feel sorry for them being in an office thats all. Some work very hard, but thats the point its just work to them.

If you pay your money into a bank, then you need office workers, and many many other expamples as well of how/why you need them, way more than they need you (us).

I think you are suffering from reverse snobbery, if you think they all think they are better than the "little" guy then you must have a reason for thinking you are considered to be the "little" guy.

I dont consider myself to be the "little" guy and I never feel I am being looked down on in anyway, but I conduct myself in a way where I can never be looked down on.

My post was lighthearted, calling them muppets, I know just as many muppets in tree work as well, some with small man syndrome! Your generalisation of office workers (the escort comment) is rather sad IMO.

i agree with that, if i have the money coming in i will buy something that could make my life easier or enjoyable, however i was asked if i wanted anything for climbing, so i kindly replied :)

i like to know that if i can afford it, i will buy it but only if i can make it work for me, one of the best ones recently was the wolf garten 4m pole and saw. invaluable!

With doing the degree aswell as working its pretty much my life atm and has been for 3 years. the balance will hopefully even out as time goes on and im not in academia anymore.

Whatever work for you Rob. I just prefer not to ever get work stuff as a present cos its, well, work stuff! I get nice stuff for me that I wouldnt otherwise get. Climbing kit is something I would eventually buy if I need it, not really a present kind of thing.

A bit like giving you wife/girlfriend glow in the dark clothes pegs, just because they make life easier dont make them good presents.!
