Stihl model numbers

Does any one know when Stihl changed their model numbers from, for example, 026 to MS260? I have seen a saw advertised with a silver label on the top stating STILH MS440 but have only ever seen them with the silver label when it has been STIHL 044 for example.

I Believe all MS Stihl saws will have the black and white flippy caps and NOT the black screw in ones! I think the change happened around 2001 but some of the Stihl techs may know the exact date!

The Stihl MS650/660 models still retain the screw in caps.

The metal riveted ID plates were discontinued in the early 90's and were replaced with a similar shaped plate, but was of light grey plastic and was retained blindly by two plastic legs on the underside of the plate. This has continued almost unchanged (with exception to the size) up until present day. Never seen a UK designated MS440 with a steel/chromed ID plate to be honest.
