Speaking to my mate in his garage and he was working on a td5 engine that had blown its head gasket and the was oil everywhere. It seems to be a problem with this engine and he was quoted £1550 for a new head which was not an original part but after market.

Check the compression before you shell out on a new turbo, with the engine warmed up take off the oil filler cap and rev it up check for smoke coming out and put your hand over and check for it blowing...

Hi Tom thanks for that lots of oil coming out of filler cap so not now looking a good engine what will good one cost 200/300 tdi is it better to fit a disco engine in thanks all Jon

just be carefull the engine doesnt start to run on its own oil, ive seen a few td5s do it when they blow turbo seals, you cant stop them and they can run till they self destruct

HI ALL it a 300 tdi engine not a td5 thanks jon or could it be oil valve seals thanks jon

All modern engines have the potential for big problems especially 3 years 1 day. The TD5 is no worse than any other and alot better than most. Small cc engines producing big bhp need more looking after especially on the cooloing side. Alot of problems are caused by people chipping them then towing them to death. Blow a common rail engine to bits and you will look at a 5k bill for a proper rebuild. Rob d is right check its defo the turbo before shelling out. All turbo diesels can run on their own engine oil . Mate who worked with me today had a transit connect 2 years old engine run away by the time he realised and tried to stall it on the clutch it bent the conrod stuffed the dual mass flywheel clutch and input shaft on the gearbox. Never saw the vehicle again.

Head gasket could be blown into an oil gallery causing excessive crank case pressure. Compression test before any thing else. If it's still running is a good sign, might have caught the problem in time.I've got a picture of a bad one,but you prob don't want to see that...?!

Our 300 tdis used to blow the head gasket between pot 3 and 4 on average every 80,000 miles in the end we used to chance the cambelt change until the gasket went and do the lot. I think ours used to go because we used to scrabble up mountains in thick mud then tow 3 tonnes of generator 200 miles home in time for tea and pub.
