Selling Firewood

Hi

I am looking at setting up a small business in selling nets and metres cubes of fire wood

I am not a tree surgeon in fact I'm a architectural technician but I have quite a few potential Clients

I need a constant supply of logs which i will cut my self

Is there anyone in and around the Huddersfield/Holmfirth area that will be able to supply this?

Also is there any advice that people would give me with this business idea?

Regards

Are you packing in the architectural work and doing the logs as a side line? If you are then fair enough but if the logs are a sideline what about log company's in your area? It's hard enough to make a living at the moment and the people decide to do it as a bit of extra income and end up taking work from people who are in that game:)

I am a architectural technician on a pretty low wage at the moment

supporting a family and running a house so just looking at something small scale for that little bit of extra cash

Im looking at working with people who don't really want to be chopping uo their logs for fire wood which i would do for them and sell on to people i work with, clients and family etc

I would also use my contacts for them to find them extra work on projects i will be working on

so really im looking at something that helps both parties out:biggrin:

So are you going to buy wood in and try and convert it to logs and sell and make a profit?

Or are you expecting the wood to be free?

Your not in my area but if you were you could have all the Poplar wood you liked for free if you collected it from each job I did.

that is the problem most people dont understand that it can cost over £20 a tonne to get it back to the yard. then it getting it on the floor in the first place that before you process and takes kit to do it eficently as well so if you count you time in to the equation then be carefull as it is very tight margens for proffit. i would agree with hodge on this matter
