I did say this was an unwise topic back on page 1 !

funny that harvest festival is one of the pagan rituals they adopted!

They would say "redeemed".

For the death of a child???

Thats a pretty heartless comment

I believe in God. I've lost two children. He's still God.

I've just started another thread:

Muslims on arbtalk?

I started that one back on page 2 for a laugh but it was promptly modded out; dunno if that's because one religion is a much softer target than said other and thus a/t could not risk inciting religious hatred re Muslims. Christians tho? Yeah, they need a good kicking. :sneaky2:

In the words of the late James Allen (irish comedian from the 80's)

"Goodnight, and may your god go with you"

Tricky, how would some folks take cars, football, sex, money etc with them?!

Where is it?[/quote

:001_rolleyes:

Atheist here, well, in that I don't believe in a god as such. However high on a mountainside or up a tree on a beautiful day I do feel spiritual, maybe that is just endorphin release due to the stimuli though?

The Bible was written as a way for those at the top to control those at the bottom, simple as.

With all the suffering in the world how can you explain it all away?

To quote a wee line inside the first page of the Enigma Album MCMXC A.D. insert "If you believe in God then you must also believe in the devil".

always had trouble defining the fine lines between animism, paganism etc

all I know is that MY religion is MY own, its unique to me and I worship nature and "commune with it"t

Say you had a very nice car; would you consider it more worthy of your bended knee than the designer / inventor (creator) of said car? I consider the latter of higher worth and thus would worship the creator rather than the created? Just wundrin. :-)

How many religious people truly believe????

Why do we never see people celebrating the death of a loved one?? if heaven is so great why so sad???, whats the old saying "every one wants to go to heaven but no body wants to die":sneaky2:

Simple, we're not wired for death, it was never meant to be.

No.

IMO they are better than Christians, they do the right thing just because its the right thing, not because they are fearful of gods wrath or looking for some reward after death.

There are many, many great people out there and having a faith is in no way a prerequisite for being a good human being.

After all a true Christian is just a sinner saved by grace

What is sin? By this I mean through your Gods eyes? I lead a relatively well-behaved life, have raised a couple of children to know right from wrong, stayed married for nigh on 25years, I suppose followed most of the 10 commandments, not intentionally, but it just works out that way. I'm not perfect, I may have breached one or two in my time (coveting thy neighbours ass comes to mind!) but this is not enough. I've been told by Christians that It is impossible to lead a sin-free life, thought is sin and so on. This I disagree with, I can think what I like, it's how I progress from those thoughts that matters surely.

When I was in hospital recently, the chaplain asked if he could pray for me, i was in a bad way for a little while, I said no, that wouldn't be right, it would be hypocrisy, plus I didn't feel that I needed saving from something, I was going nowhere. At the worst, I'd be gone. End of. No need for saving there then!
