My dad bought a cheap Mcculloch one off some TV shopping channel. It's a trimmer with all the extra bits on. It's cheap and nasty but to be fair, it's done a lot of work and seems lighter than the Stihl I have borrowed (no idea on the model).

 

That said, we have found that we use it all the time and worry that it's going to fall to bits. We sell quite a few of the Draper Expert version and have had zero comeback on those. Your choice is either a new budget brand which is guaranteed or a second hand proper model which may have been abused I guess.

 

Great tools though. The other day I had an Alder which had snapped about 3ft up the trunk but had not fallen and was horizontal, hanging up in some hazel trees. Rather than have to try and get it on the ground, I was able to log it there and then from a safe distance.
