Sthil combi units - hedgecutter greasing

On the adjustable head hedgecutter attachments there are the two grease points. take out the screw, insert sthils stupid wee grease tube and squeze.

Is there an attachment for a grease gun or simmilar, or does anyone do it another way, I hate buying those tubes and as a result one of my heads disintegrated inside. I kinda want to save the others and the replacement from the same fate, a bit expensive like.

 

Any ideas??

You know the stupid grease tubes screw into the hole dont you? Took me a few years before someone pointed it out to me but then I'm a bit thick.

Eh........aye, thats kinda the point, at the moment i have to buy them cause i cant figure out another way to get grease in the hole, cause i'm dumb.

but there has to be another way, i mean, what, £12 for a wee tube of grease is just plain robery, granted cheaper than a new head. but i've got a box of grease gun tubes in the shed and it anoys me.

Oh....... can you get a nipple to screw into the hole???

Not as thick as me though!! I was just holding the tube near the hole and squeezing and hoping for the best!!

 

I would have thought a grease gun held tight against the hole would force it in enough for you to use up your old tubes? Or, if your clevererere than me, could you get a spare stihl plug and drill it out and thread it and insert a grease nipple?

 

Now, theres an idea!!

If its got a screw thread then you can fit a nipple.

Stihl make a bigger grease tube that works out more economical. Stihl expensive for what it is but I have'nt found an alternative grease that is as good. If you don't regrease on a regular basis it will fail.

fit a standard grease nipple, thats what i did, those Stihl grease tubes are not at all economical the teeth need regular greasing to work well, the blades heat up and go stiff straining the egine (and you) if not greased frequently, same as chain oiling in the saw.

I service loads of these and always just use a standard lever grease gun pushed against the hole. Its better than using a nipple as you cant force too much grease in. Standard mutli purpose grease is fine for this application.
