Well this has seemed to opened a whole lot of cans of worms!!!!

Getting back to the original question -

I have no training, I am self employed with no employees, I have no public liability insurance yet

Can I work on someone else's land?

and hope nothing goes wrong

I thought OAPA was 1861? The assault, or rather battery, part was tied in with R v Hopkins 1860. Sorry, I'm an even bigger pedant :blushing:

You are probably right, I never was good at dates! In response to other posts you can shoot someone without killing them or intending to do so (IRA kneecapping as an example or small bore weapons/shotgun). Any shooting in such circumstances are simply an assault albeit a serious one. Thats why the Offences Against the Person Act comes into play rather than common law. Legal aid offered at bargain basement prices!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, you can!

oh no you can't

On a serious note,

Write out a disclaimer for the land owner to sign.

Stating that you have no formal qualifications for chainsaw and they are happy for you to carry on.

Or phone the citizen's advice and see what they say.

This will be better than saying that some one that you don't know on the internet said it's ok

Don't worry, I asked my local dealer, he said that as long as I have all the PPE and Public liability I'm fine

So does your Public liability cover you for using a chainsaw without certification.

If so let us know who your insurance company is it may help a lot of people who are just getting started.
