Hey mog I can't quite tell what the modification on the vt is from your pic, probably just me.

looks like the top braid is an x then after that the upper leg goes over the bottom leg in the braids.

If you look at the top leg as it comes down over the coils of the prussik it should be going anti-clockwise but he has twisted it around bottom leg to reverse direction the top leg now goes around clockwise if that makes sense.

The wraps go on as usual then the first Tress is reversed by wrapping the top cord around the bottom cord. Then dressing the Tresses as normal but going in the 'wrong' direction.

Oi! Spiderjack user stay out of this!:001_tt2:

Climb on a lockjack for a week and you'll see it can not allow a free fall.

You are right that the LJ itself will not allow free fall but human error i.e panic & a desire to hold onto it will result in a rapid decent until brain has engaged in the LET GO! response which to many climbers new to climbing or this device may forget in some situations.

I speak from seeing this happen 1st hand when I lent mine to a novice climber who was doing fine until the final decent at which point she decided to hold on tight for some reason despite my shouts of LET GO! & my running toward her to give her something soft to land on & save my LJ from being damaged:sneaky2: It all ended well with some jokes & her not wishing to have another go on it.

I climbed with a LJ for 3 years or so but when I had a play with the HC & found it almost the same I sacked off the LJ for most climbs.

Buy a HC, you won't regret it.
