Sugar in fuel Tanks!!!

Just discovered a quantity of sugar in two fuel tanks - one is on the Thor log splitter the other is the HP Eagle bench saw!

Any one else ever had this done to them?

Has it likely to have caused any long term damage?

 

I am hoping I found it without having run the engines with it in the fuel!

Sounds like someones trying to put you outta business! Caramelised engine parts?

once encountered an exhaust on a forwarder filled with water deliberatly! im sure the had the sugar in the tank thing on mythbusters an it did sod all

Both tanks have fuel filters so hopefully no grains have got in any where.

The sugar has remained in granular form so am guessing it doesn't dissolve particularly well in petrol.

Bit of a pain having to clean both the tanks out though!

If some body was having a pop or trying to disrupt business why not do something more drastic than sugar in fuel tank?

They could have quite easily cut hydraulic pipes or drive belts or any number of things....but that would have required a level of thought that these people don't possess

How did you find it?

 

Just glanced in prior to re-fuelling and noticed a white sludge in bottom of tank (black plastic tank so easy to notice).

Removed the tank and took it to a friends work shop, removed the fuel and it left about a cup full of grains in bottom of tank.

Washed it and tasted it- sugar!

But you would have noticed that which means it would have caused annoyance and delay but not serious damage. This looks more like somebody really trying to sod stuff up properly. Had a run in with anybody recently? Please don't name names!

The sugar will dissolve until the solution reaches saturation so finding granules isn’t indicative.

 

As long as you haven’t run the engine it should be OK. Drain replace filters and flush the fuel lines, oh and fit some locking caps.
