Stereo, is the ban they're talking about to do with log stoves in built up areas because of fear of smog, or is it more to do with health risk in the home? A return to the days of smog filled cities doesn't really bear thinking about, but if it's to do with indoor health risk then rather than ban stoves they need to look at proper sealing and flues. I wonder if there is some anti-woodstove sentiment being fuelled by the oil companies?

I can't find any reliable info about a ban really being brought in apart from a few localized resident campaigns & news stories about banning t outdoor wood burners (OWB's) whatever then are.....

Don't think it will happen apart from smokeless zone type things in towns etc

EDIT:Hey they look like armoured portaloos now I want one!

This is a bit of a red herring

There is no ban, any noises are comming form the USA.

The UK allready has this issue covered with legislation, quite a while ago.

I can understand the complaints reading that article.

Wouldnt be too nice living next door to one of those burning all day, would constantly stink the house out!

I am going to change my open fire for a stove this summer and just as a precaution although I live in a non smoke -control area I am going to go for a defra approved jobby to make sure it is future proof in case someone changes the regs!

Fwiw I'm pretty sure that there are already regs on at least maintaining efficiency levels when a heating appliance is changed, so as I understand, it would not be theoretically allowed to take out a stove and replace it with an open fire. Unless I'm talking a load of pooh!

I wanted to do a bear joke but you've exhausted them all! When I was in the states some time ago I saw a few of these things. They reminded me of the smoke houses for curing meat and fish products which do stink! These furnaces produce good old woodsmoke which I find quite pleasant in small quantities but tons of the stuff, every day no thanks. Ordinary domestic wood stoves will be fine.
