Swandri

Seems like coat talk is order of the day at present so to add to it a little.........what are the views out there on Swandri coats? Made in NZ from 100% wool. I've met a few people who have had the long coat/smock type affair and they've loved it. I know it's too long to climb in but what's it like on the ground?? I'm severley tempted in to an impulse purcahse. Ps. the new Ranger extreme on earborist looks pretty handy!!

I have the long Swanni, but its far too hot and heavy to work in, even in winter!

I have the long green smock, i love it but like Andy says it can get a bit to warm great for walking the dog and when out shooting etc but not great for active work, although i had seen the ranger extreme jackets and fancy having a look at one before shelling out online.

 

I generally only wear a cotton shirt under my swanni and that is normally fine even on frosty mornings

Swandri's are great for kicking around in but a bit warm for working in.

 

The bush shirts are any way.

 

Swandri shifted all there manufacturing to China last year and since then the quality has gone rapidly down hill, so much so the company had to get the N.Z government to bail them out so i heard.

 

Fantisticly long lasting if you can get the old ones but make sure you do not wash them in detergent. The wool is processed so as to leave the sheeps natural water shedding capabilities so if you wash with a machine it ruins them.

 

I used mine all the time in N.Z when working on a tree nursery but found it to restrictive for tree work, climbing any way. I still have a simple shirt which is great and super hard wearing.

I love my swannies. I have several. They can be a bit on the warm side for serious graft so use them as a top layer.

I think my Swanny is brilliant, waterproof and very hard wearing. Certainly will replace it with another when it reaches the end of it's life! Only downside is it look's a bit old fashioned but not a problem for work!! also the cuffs could do with some sort of velcro closure in stead of the button's , but other than that superb.

then you strip off and its too cold with out it! been finding some cheap but what would be otherwise expensive base layers from TK max they seem to be doing the trick nicely.
