Rapid Super chain causing kickback in bore cut? Advice needed!

Hi,

I had my second day of training for CS30 yesterday. Saw was working fine, had a new Stihl rapid Super chain fitted. Im having trouble doing my kickback while starting bore cuts. Starting with the underside of the nose is fine but as soon as I bring the upper quadrant of the nose into the cut I get kickback. My instructor said that some Stihl chains were renowned to do this, he had a go and at first it kicked back with him too! I tried his saw and I did it fine. After doing some research on the net it seems that the stihl Rapid Super (RS) chain can do this. I completed all of the other cuts fine so Im now wondering if its the chain?? Anyone had any experience of this?? Any advice???

Thanks,

Anthony.

Cheers dave! I couldnt understand why it was happening as everyone else did it with ease, including me when I used Pasty`s saw! Doing my training at Kernow, the place you recommended! Got accessment on friday so need to get this sorted before then!

What type of Oregon chain should I ask for, chisel, semi, etc,etc........

It would definitely be easier with semi chiesel... You can bore cut with full chisel but there's more likely to be kickback and if it happens more severe....

Did you check the depth gauges? Too low depth gauges could also be the problem.

Push harder as you bore in. Think of it as a stubbon horse/ woman. Use the inside of your leg braced up against your hand/back handle, and to add extra force. Start off at a less steep angle and cut in3-4" befor you start to bring it paralell with the back of the hinge.

Finnally make sure that you are not in the line of fire if it does kick back.
