Lots of engraving on parts that will make the saw undesirable to look at to a prospective buyer on areas that will mean alot of work & £ to bother with, i.e fuel tank, base of the unit, some smaller areas inside the workings that are only accessible from a break down for maintenance. You probably wont get your nicked saw back but it may annoy the person who is selling it as the value may not be as much as with a clean unspoiled saw.

i thought of area colour coding inc notches dia grinding fins to relate owner in that area etc sw nw se ne etc etc then a picture on here if it gets nicked etc scuffs scrapes n all like a data base but keep it upto date ???????? would be a pain to get rid and police could access to return to rightful owner then too BUT WOULD THEY BE A**ED or just send to auction for policemans ball sold with police reciept etc ?????

I engrave my house name, postcode and the words 'stolen from' on all my kit. Obviously I've reduced the 2nd hand value but then I run my kit into the ground so it's not an issue for me.

Good answers folks, Im not worried about 2nd hand value as im sure ill run my saw into the ground :001_smile:

Does anyone use a soldering iron to engrave or is this a bad idea

I use a soldering iron to engrave post code, name and date.

If you sprayed the whole saw pink, would that deter somebody from nicking it?
