Another tree nearer to me is going to be felled because of a "significant defect".

Landmark tree in Wimborne Square to be felled (From Bournemouth Echo)

Right whos going to say what they think of this one!

heres the quote from the link!

A LANDMARK tree that has stood in the heart of Wimborne Square for around 20 years is to be cut down.

Experts say the London plane tree has a ‘significant defect’ and say it must be felled or have a faulty branch removed.

Rather than take the branch away, reducing the tree’s canopy by around a third, East Dorset District Council has decided to replace it instead.

The fault in the large primary limb was discovered during preparations for the Square Enhancement scheme, which began this week. It was due to have its crown lifted anyway.

Lindsay Cass, head of environmental services at the Christchurch and East Dorset Partnership, said: “The need to remove the tree is disappointing.

“However, it gives the Council the opportunity to provide a healthy replacement in a more suitable location.

“The new tree will be a central feature in The Square for many years to come.”

The tree will be felled on February 6 and should be replaced before the enhancement works finish in May.

The new tree will be placed further away from the road in a prepared tree pit.

A root deflector will be provided to encourage the roots to develop at a lower level, reducing the risk of damage to the new paving as the tree grows.
