Gypsy "Fly Grazing"

Very similar situation near us Nick.

There is an area approx 70 acres near a very large housing estate, all rough grass and thorn, humps and hills and is covered with tethered horses. Its land that eventually will go for buliding I'd say.

The local kids often go on it with dirt bikes, build dens and generally lark about on there on bikes.

The police regularly raid the area and confiscate the kids stuff and crush the dirt bikes for tresspass and causing damage to property.

I know one guy who's lad of 15 had his bike crushed, asked why was it that the horses stay, and several police said they weren't allowed to impound the horses as they had no where to put them, and they couldn't find the owners!

Bit lazy of the police, IMO. Finding the owners should be easy. They should be visiting the horses regularly so the police need to post notices stating the horses should be removed within a set period of time (at least twice the interval at which the owners are required to inspect the horses) and contact details. If no contact is made and the horses are not removed, the police can then remove them with the help of one of the animal charities after the time given has elapsed. Looks more like the kids on bikes are an easier target to boost the statistics. Just another example of some sections of society being seen as beyond the law.

problem is we can get em compounded... this has happened 4 times o9ver yrs....[or hasnt as case may be] to compoud them you have to get court order which isnt a problem... you have to put notices up on gates, fences etc tellin them they have 7 days to vacate.... on the 6th day the gypsys come in and move the horses..on the 8th day they bring them all back again.. in other fields we could use that time to dig big ditches round perimeter but at this particular place this cant be done... so they put them back... when they get out on the road its us wh get bollocking by the ploice and get told if they cause an accident its our insurance they'l be claiming off... anything thats in land we own or rent has to be fenced in properly as we'r owner or tennant even if there there illegally...we refused to pay the rent on that 25 acres 3 or 4 yrs ago cos of that problem bu for 7 yrs we were payin £900 a yr for bit ground we couldnt use and gettin snotty letters from agent quotin passeges from tennancy agreement about sub lettin [which wasnt allowed].. we payed this for those yrs cos didnt wanna upset the school and loose the other good arable land bt enough was enough...!!

On the 7th day (while they are off) could you not acid spay the land killing the grass, so even if they came back there would soon be no grazing. Obviously you would need to put up signs warning them what you have done.

land is a water meadow... any spraying is illegal... unfortunatly... we've even got a block of 200 acres arable land not that far from this field and they've put over 70 horses in there before on stubble... the land is well fenced as used to be dairy/livestock farm.. now we have to plough it soon as straws off to stop em doing it again...

All horses should have a passport and be microchipped now so if these are not then can be seized and disposed. Movement licences are needed when selling horses which these often are. Nick - How are the Gypsies entering the site? (cutting chains and fencing in which case it is willfull damage and trespass and you can remove the animals without going to court). There are firms who remove problem people all the time and some were involved at the so called Dale Farm.

I heard in some areas the person has humane destroyed some horses and this results with them being moved from site.

Often seems one law for some and a different law for the rest of normal society?
