opinions and feedback on the yale xtc ropes

yale xtc ropes, good rope?

 

seems like the most reasonable and cost efficient rope for a beginner.

my first two ropes were xtc and they served me perfectly. for the cost you can't really fault it.

xtc fire, smells like a butchers shop,soft as a sheep's butt , visible to all and three ton break-strain. i'm on my second.

listen bud my mate steve at chainsdirect.co.uk has some very good prusik cord,it's a bit thick at 8mm but responds very well as prusik, prob even better as blakes , seems to act like expensive multicore stuff aswell.

also he's got some super light harnesses at stupid prices, best checking the site,or if you can't find what you want just phone with your preferd product description , he might have it but at least you can compare prices, just tell him gray sent you, happy climbing bud.

Can't knock it. Its what my work supply. I have a 45m , 30m , 15m and side strop all made from it in various colours. Piece of cake to splice to if thats your thing.

cool i'm still in college so my kits just so i can get more experience at work, so i just want the basic stuff to start with, so i doubt i'll be splicing anything just yet aha.

I would advise to start as you mean to go on and think more about your friction system first. You probably won't be using a prussic loop, unless you're really stupid, and a Lockjack, Spiderjack or Unicender is the most energy efficient to use.

 

13mm rope doesn't work well in the first two, I don't know about Unicender.

 

Look at the rope threads that ran here this year to get all the info you need.

 

By the way, I climbed on XTC Fire for seven years on a Lockjack, great rope but now I've switched to Poison HiVee it's SO SO much better.
