We have something around Andover Newbury area called Oracle. A business card size ad costs about £30 for several weeks. Not sure what you are advertising but we used to get at least 7 new log customers ea time, then they would recommend. We have not used advertising for about 3 years and cant cope with more log deliveries. We advertise in the firewood directory on here and I think when you post on the forum it helps refresh your presence online. Leave a few buisness cards in notice boards in villages and schools.

I'd disagree with this, to set a good impression you need good quality leaflets/flyers then take in to account fuel to get you to your drop zone and time taken when you could be earning money. Doesn't sound like eff all to me.

I have, on occasion, when there is nothing else to do, got on my pushbike with a bumbag and done a leaflet drop. I'm not too proud, and have got the odd job from it. You can also engage householders in direct conversation and sell a bit of stumpgrinding etc.

Why not?

I am proud to say that I have had over 80,000 leaflets professionally delivered over that last few years. They do work but you need to think big and do plenty.

I have not done any this year as the domestic market has gone quiet and have concentrated on LA and commercial work instead. I have done some cold calling to get commercial work, and that has paid off too.

If you run your own business then like it or not you are a businessman, and a good businessman knows how to bring in work. There will be plenty of great tree surgeons who have gone bust because they weren't good businessmen, and plenty of bad tree surgeons who have made a fortune........:001_smile:

i never know whether its a good thing to do or not, in the past i have done quite a few drops and on average i found i would get a job for every drop i did usually 75 at a time just when i had a few hours to spare, but i had a professional job done on them and i think that really helps. don't bash one up on microsoft word and print them yourself and expect to give a professional impression. oh yeah price wise it cost me £120 to have 5000 quality ones printed, so it will definiatly pay for itself.

Just do a few every time you have a few mins spare after a job, 10 houses up 10 houses down or something.
